Uyuni Salt Flat Shelter

CONTINUUM
In Salar de Uyuni the surface is flat, perceived as infinity, where sometimes the horizon disappears and you lose the mirror effect, not getting the reflection in the water but instead an echo of continuum, while still being inside of the space. (Tomas Saraceno, 168. 000 Light Years).
This led to our concept for this project. The proposed intervention accommodates the contemplation of the space and articulates the natural landscape it inhabits, merging this two different ‘realities”.

Continuum, it is an open shelter mostly for meditation and relaxations, visited by its landscape lovers and travelers. The only intervention to a salt cutting to accommodate the shelter as a form of a linear excavation underground, a continuum of natural elements that defines the space bringing thus the purpose of the shelter, the continuation of salt, and also the uninterrupted continuity of water coming from the open terrace, which reflects the stars during the night. With a linear open roof the visitors can have a 180 degree view of the sky, while walking further on through the space.
